. QUEBEC TRACKS TO BE TAXED. Booloandaking to Be Prohibited and Mutuel System of Wagering Made Compulsory. .Montreal, Que., December 13. Advices received from Quebec intimate that it is understood that when the amendments to the Quebec license law are introduced in the legislature this week, a means will be proposed to provide revenue to meet the one million dollar grant to the patriotic fund and other patriotic grants, by taxing race tracks in the Province of Quebec. The principal of taxing race tracks is understood to have already been decided upon by the cabinet council. It will be proposed that bookmakers at race tracks be prohibited and substituted lby the pari-mutuel system, which will be made 1 The proposed tax will be in the neighborhood of four per cent on all bets and as there are over one hundred race tracks in the Province of Quebec it is expected that the revenue will be in the neighborhood of 00,000. An official of the government will attend all race meetings to see that the proposed law is strictly observed. A similar law is in force in Ontario and in many of the American States, and it has been successful. The proposed measure is expected to have the Hinanimous approval of all the members in the legislature on the government side of the house.
