Twenty-four foreign-bred yearlings, imported by the Brownlelgh Park Stable, owned by G. H. Browne, were sold at auction at Durlands Riding Academy in New York, Thursday night for a total of 7,050. The sale was conducted by the Powers-Hunter Compay, with George Bain the auctioneer, and tho prices realized was another evidence of the healthy condition of the thoroughbred market. The average was more than 00 each, and from the time the first youngster was led into the ring until the hammer fell on the last filly of the list, the bidding was prompt and spirited. The best price of the sale was paid for the handsome chestnut son of Poussin Gentian. This one was knocked down to J. L. McGinnis, though it was announced that he made the purchase for Glendenning Ryan. McGinnis also paid the second best figure for a colt when he obtained Col. Cluff, a chestnut son of Galloping Simon Amitie, for ,000. Tread Lightly, a chestnut daughter of Tredennis Bachelors Beauty, was the most sought after filly that was offered, and after McGinnis had gone to ,450 in an effort to obtain her she was knocked down to R. K. Burns for ,500. The second best price paid for a filly was ,050. that was successfully bid by William Jennings, of Maryland, who was buying for C. M. Garrison. This one is Alderberry, a chestnut daughter of Ben Alder Haply. Mr. Garrison was also the purchaser of Tommic Tee, a chestnut son of Grey Leg Augusta Victoria. These are only some of the recent purchases that have been made by Mr. Garrison. He will campaign a considerable string next year under the name of the Calumet Stable. Henry Waterson bought the largest number, purchasing two fillies and six colts, at an average price of 25. T. J. Duggan and Captain J. Press, two Canadian sportsmen, were also purchasers. M. Lynch was on hand, and bought two for William L. Oliver when lie took Theyre Off II.. a chestnut sou of William Rufus Diamond Cut Diamond, for 50. and Best Man, a bay son of Henry the First Bridal, for 00. After Lvnch had made the purchases he engaged Matt Dooley to take the colts to W. L. Olivers Lakewood, N. J., farm. Among those on hand were Dr. Cary Grayson, President Wilsons physician; A. J. Joyner, W. K. Coe, Captain Alexander, Web Carter, of Virginia; Samuel Ross, of Washington; T. J. Bird, of Toronto, who has taken over the J. K. L. Ross horses that were iu the care of the late Captain grave; Frank Farrar, Captain J. Press, Ed Peters, Emil Herz, Sheridan Clark, Frank Midgley, Sandy McNaughton, James Fitzsimmons, W. II. Karrick, Dr. R. W. McCully, Richard E. Watkins, J. H. Carr, James Frayling, R. Angarola, James McLaughlin, J. L. McGinnis, Walter House, Max Hirsch and many others as well known to racing.
