, LONE STAR A FEED STORE CHAMPION. j Horse Which Has Won Three Races at Juarez This Winter Was Given Up as a Bad Actor. Acquiring racers by the feed store route is not new in turf annals, but D. A. Stevens, owner of such a store at El Paso, is luckier than the average turfman drawn into the sport by this angle. Two of the horses which lie hud "found it convenient to take over as a compensation," won races on the same day at Juarez. In the case of at least one of them, however, there was more than an element of luck. Neither Zolzo nor Lone Star paid his way at the Juarez meeting a year ago. Lone Stars owner gave him up in disgust. After Mr. Stevens took him over lie won two races last winter and thus far lias won three purses this winter. But when he went into the hands of Mr. Stevens Lone Star was an exceptionally bad actor and on this account alone considered almost worthless as a racing tool. Mr. Ste-vens and his trainer, however, finally tamed the "wild" horse and the gelding is now one of the best at the winter track. Zolzo was kept by her former owners until the end of last season, when she was given up as a bad proposition. She won at her third start this winter for Mr. Stevens. Among other horses belonging to this owner are Clara James, Lupie L. and Lady Innocence.
