MADE NO MISTAKE ABOUT OWANA. As An Odds -On Favorite She leads with Ease from Start to Finish. Havana. Cuba, December 27. W. P. Reed had the satisfaction of seeing his three -year-old filly Owana go to the post a 1 to 5 favorite at Oriental Park this afternoon and the daughter of Dick Welles showed that the confidence in her was not misplaced. Owana. rushing to the front at the start, and won with speed in reserve, held sway throughout. After her victory Owana was bid up from 00 to 05 and was bought in by her owner. McAdams, favorite for the opening race, failed to withstand the closing rush of Thomas Hare, which finished resolutely. Lost Fortune chased Protagoras to the middle of the stretch in the second race and then did not have enough left to head off the three-year-old Sandel. The latter gradually improved his position from a slow beginning and came with :i rush in the last sixteenth, just barelv getting up in time. The speculators fared better in the third race, when Silver Bill, well-backed, proved a winner from flag fall to the finish. Golden List was his closest attendant all the way. Kazan came with a rush to get third money. There were only four starters In the fourth race, and again a three-year-old showed the way home. Corey saved Murphy behind the pacemaker, York-ville, to the stretch and then took the lead, but had to shake up his mount to keep clear of Droll, which stood a long stretch drive to beat Yorkville two lengths for second money. Droll was favorite over the winner in the betting.
