ED CUDIHEE DEFEATS SLIPPERY ELM. Wins thes ,500 San Diego Business Mens Handicap in Thrilling Finish. Tijuana. Mex.. January 21. — In one of the greatest finishes over witnessed at Tijuana. Eel Cudihei. son of Golf Ball, won the San Diego Business Mens Handicap, valued at ,500, here today. Cncler a gruelling drive from the three-eighths post home Ed Cudihce and Slippery Elm fought it out every inch of the- way, the former lasting best in a heart-breaking finish. Slippery Elm finished second and Vesta was third. Ed Cudihce went right to the front and lost little time in opening a gap which stood him in good stead. At the half mile post it appeared as though Ed Cudihce would succumb to the pace, but he held up surprisingly well beneath a well-judged ride at the hands of Earl Pool. Turfmen in general did not believe Ed Cudihee would be able to do his best in the soft going, but owner Neal insisted that he would be at home in it. A thiong of visitors from San Francisco and Los Angeles came here for the big stake and they went wild with joy over the grand race. They were favored with perfect weather. Barney Schreiber is the latest bookmaker to cut in. He operated today for the first time.
