SYNDICATE RING BETTING UNPOPULAR. Ry J. R. Jeffery. San Diego, Cat, January 21. — There is no gainsaying the fact that the substitution" of the syndicate method of quoting odds for the open ring condition* that prevailed in the early part of the s ason has given the Tijuana meeting a setback. Many of the regulars who were enthusiastically supporting the meeting could not see their way clear to continue to do so under the new conditions and have moved on to other racing centers, most of them with keen regret, because otherwise conditions WOK entirely to their liking hen-. Most of them were willing to concede that Manager OooT-roths only alternative would have been to install the in lit ii« Is and that would have been impossible ii: the limited time during which he hail to make a decison as to what he would do when the open ling plan collapsed. There have been intimations that the mutuels may eventually be installed at Tijuana and that an experimental meeting may he : ttempted between the close of the present meeting and tin- opening of the next winter meeting to determine their availability in this locality.
