Takes Her Third in a Week — Vanessa Welles First in the Race for Two-Year-Olds. Ne-w Orleans. La.. January 22. — Mud racing was again the order at the Fair Orounds this afternoevn. the hard rains since Saturday converting the course into a veritable quagmire. I.b-ak. threatening weather was again present, and it contributed towards a decreased attendance, but a surprisingly big throng was still out to view the racing. Because of the adverse conditions, the racing suffered it being marked by a lack of close finishes and an absence of the- better grade of starters. G. H. Knebelkamps Lucile P.. by taking the mile feature, a handicap under claiming conditions, figured in the third success she has scored i:: a week. She was benefited by her light impose and the going and came away to win with great ease from Yodeles. the favorite, and Fairly. The opening race, in which youngsters made the contest, was taken by Vanessa Welles from Paula V. and the favorite. Water Wave. The latter was probably b-st. but swerved at a critical period. Thomas Clydes Monomoy graduated from the maiden ranks in the second, contested by an ordinary band of non-winners. Progressive was one outstanding choice that the talent profited handsomely bj , for he won with -ase-from Costumer. The fifth race enabled Yalas to repent a former good victory when he led the others to the finish by a g. od margin. Judge Murphy announced this afternoon the suspension of jockey Warschers riding license because eif unbecoming conduct. The rider is alleged to have been abusive towards one of the gatemen. There was much regret among the horsemen that I. B. Bennyson had to return to a local hospital e have his leg. fractured during the fair, lire-ceding the race meeting, broken over and reset.
