MARYLAND JOCKEY CLUBS SPRING STAKES. Under its announced new policy in regard to stake races, the Maryland Jockey Club has opened four events of value to close for entries Monday. April 2. In that connection the dab announces that it has applied for racing dates from May 1 to May IT. inclusive. To the four events now on offer there is no entrance fie. The only charge to owners is a starting fee, which goes to the winner. They are: The Preakness Stakes, three-year-olds. 00 to start. ,000 added: one and one-eighth miles. Pimlico Spring Handicap, three-year-olds and over, 0 to start, ,500 added; one mile and seventy yards. Spring Juvenile Stakes, two-year-oils. 0 to start. ,000 added: four and one -half furlongs. Qreea Spring Valley Steeplechase, 0 to start. ,000 added: two miles. The added money is on a scale of unimpeachable liberality, but. since it costs nothing to enter, it will be surprising if there is not a big entry list of undesirables. However, the club expressly reserves the right to reject entries under rule forty -three of the rules of racing. The outcome of the clubs experiment will be awaited with interest.
