STAKE FEATURE TO SLIPPERY ELM. Little Son of Bannockburn Shoulders 130 Pounds and Wins Los Angeles Highweight Handicap. Tijuana, Mex.. January 28. — Slippery Elm showed himself to be a capital little horse, when he shouldered 130 pounds and defeated a good band of j sprinters today in the Los Angeles Highweight Handicap of the net value of .,200 to the winner. He only got up to win by u nose in a drive that began at the head of the stretch. It was a splendid effort for the little son of Pannockburn, after that gruelling race in the mud of a week ago. Sayonarra made a resolute effort for the ,500 stake. She raced Dimitri into defeat after the latter had set the early pace, then fought it out with Slippery Elm only to tire and sin -cumb in the final strides. Slippery Elm was best ridden at the finish. Troxler displaying all his old-time skill in getting every ounce out of the game little horse. Maud Paeon ran well throughout and finished a game third. Deliver, second choice in the betting, ran a dull race. Poseoe Troxler rode two winners. Aside from his powerful finish with Slippery Elm. he piloted Cncle Jimmie Gray to victory in the first. Prosperos Paliy was an easy wnncr of the second, while Prince Conrad won the third. J. 11ns-kins l..imed ITosperos Paby out of the second race. A record-breaking crowd was in attendance today, visitors coming from many parts. They were favored with a grand display of Southern California sunshine.
