JOCKEY PICKENS RIDES THREE WINNERS. His Work in Saddle Feature of Yesterdays Racing at Tijuana — Track Improving. Tijuana. Mex.. January 30. — Arthur Pickens displayed Lis old -time ability in the saddle, when he rode three winners in a row today. The lad had been ailing for the past two weeks and accepted few mounts. He was more active than ever today. First Degree won the feature race here today. The gelding came from behind when Ann Tilly, which had set the pace to the stretch tired, and, forging to the front, won easing up. Ann Tilley began slowly and her efforts to get to the treat told on her. for after setting a fast pace, she tired and dropped out of it in the stretch. Ruth Esther won an easy race when I.etitia, the favorite in the third, came wide when turning into the stretch and forced Water Warbler with her. Miss Brushs easy victory in the second race emphasized the action of the judges, when they suspended jockey J. Melntyre for his bad ride on the mare the other day when she was beaten on that occasion by Buss Sand. Dr. S. P. Kate won the opening race in the closest finish of the day, the smallest of margins separating the first three. G. Sadlo claimed Barton out of the second rice President Coffroth has written Matt J. Winn, expressing his regret that Juarez was forced to dose and invited him to come here to visit. C. K. i. Billings has signified an intention of coming here and bringing his great trotter Ihlau with him. There is talk here among the horsemen of getting up a petition asking president Coffroth to extend the present meeting for fifty additional racing .lavs. It is said the business men of San Diego would be pleased if such an extension materialized. It is expected that a goodly number of the horsemen who have been racing at Juarez will ship their strings here to finish out the season. Hundreds of turf followers here have become Itolo enthusiasts. President James Wood Coffroth. too. has become ail ardent enthusiast of the great sport and he entertained a party of friends in a box at Coronado recently.
