In deciding, at the request of the Government. to restrict flat racing to Newmarket for the time being, the Jockey Club has been aotunt.il by th • highest motives, and its action will doubtless be endorsed by the vast majority of those whose in terests are bound, directly or indirectly, with the sport. Everybody realizes that we have reached an acute point in the course of the war. and that the happenings of the coming months will be of the greatest moment. During this period, then, everything has to be subservient to the gigantic task on hand. Nothing Said About "Extra" Fixtures. The fixtures already arranged for Newmarket are given below. These are the eight which take place in normal times, and altogether account for twnty-nlne days of the year. Nothing is said concerning "extra" fixtures at headquarters, but it can be taken for granted that these will lie arranged in due course, as was the case last year and that preceding. Last year ther° were, of course, several meetings at Gatwick. Lingfield. Newbury and Windsor: and we are encouraged by the terms of the resolution to hope that when circumstances warrant it meetings will be again permitted at the above named and other places. The government has demonstrated that it is fully cognizant of the immense importance of the racing and breeding industries; but the prosecution of the war to a triumphant issue is the paramount concern of the moment: The following are the fixtures as at present arranged: Crave* Meeting three days— April 17. 18. 19.
