HANOVIA IN WINNING FORM TAKES THE ST. PATRICKS HANDICAP FROM SPEEDY BEDTIME STORIES. Oaklawn Track in Improved Condition and Attendance Large — Leochares and Old Rosebud May Meet at Seven-Eighths Soon. Hot Springs. Ark.. March 17.— F.. T. Coltons Ilanovia raced to her best form this afternoon, enabling her to win the three-quarters St. Patricks Handicap, which featured this afternoons principal offering. The mare was kept dose up while following the leaden and under mild urging in the stretch, drew up to Bedtime Stories, to ultimately win by a half length. Bedtime Stories ran well and under strong riding, outgamed Jack ODowd. Bob Hensley and Adalul were dose up in the early running, but tired badly in the stretch. Crisp but dear weather, coupled with a fairly-good card, was instrumental in bringing out the full force of enthusiasts in these parts and was responsible for the best attendance of the present week. Betting action was again heavy and the forty layers again in line were kept actively engaged from the start. Tiie back had dried considerably and was firm, although a bit dull. The racing area interesting throughout, with several lose finishes to further enthuse the big throng. Spectre and Petit Bleu began proceedings by-staging a terrific duel iu the opener. Spectre winning in the last stride. A repetition of the initial finish came in the second between Lady Ward and WiUdcr, with Stonehenge a head back of the pair. Langhornes success was achieved easily. Ltelus being the runner-up. In the fifth race Kilday just man aged to get up in the last stride to overhaul the confidently supported Thanksgiving. Disastrous Day for the Talent. It was again a disastrous day for the talent, choices and second favorites going down with regu -larity. Some of the winners, however, found extensive backing and curtailed some of the layers winnings. The following ruling was handed down by the judges this afternoon: "For threatening a rider and for conduct and language detrimental to the best interests of racing, trainer T. F. Bornham is fined 838." Jockey Williams was the rider threatened and it came about through that Jockeys alleged interference with Hazelnut in a previous race. Secretary Jack Campbell is making an ffort to bring about a meeting between Leochares and Old Beeehad and is framing conditions in his next program book that will enable the pair to meet at seven-eighths under conditions that will enable both to get ill at 123 pounds. Any good three year old can come in at 100 ikiuikIs. The owners of the pair of cracks have signified their willingness to enter and the pair might yet provide an interesting contest over the Oaklawn track. Leochares was worked a quarter this afternoon in a shade less than 23 seconds. General manager Sam Davis of the Essex Park track has put a force of carpenters to work building seventy-five additional stalls, which will give that course r 00 stalls during the coming meeting. Secretary Fred Oerhardy is now at work arranging his first program book, which will be distributed to owners next week. Jockey Scherror was suspended for four days by the starter for disobedience at the jxist.
