JOCKEY CRUISE IN TROUBLE AT HAVANA. Stewards at Oriental Park Not Satisfied with Riders Handling of Palm Leaf in First Race. Havana. Cuba. March 17. — Jockey Cruises handling af lalm Leaf in the first race at Oriental Iark this afternoon was unsatisfactory to the stew ards and the rider was ordered to cancel his farther engagements for the afternoon, pending a more complete investigation of todays race. Lost Fortune, a i to 5 favorite in the betting, ridden by C. Miller, won the race, with Marigold second and Protagoras third. Palm Leaf, after advancing from 2 to 1 to 3 to 1 in the betting, finished fourth, beaten eight lengths. Palm Leaf on form looked to be a keen factor, but an unnatural support developed for Laat Fortune. Ialm Leaf dropped out of contention in the early running and at no time was a serious contender. Cruise appeared to have her under restraint all the way. The stewards immediately after the running of the net ordered that other riders be substituted on Polonium, If Coming and Iage White. Stirring finishes marked a majority of the races. The attendance was large for Saturday. A. F. Dayton claimed Sevillian from R. M. Small yesterday. At the conclusion of the days racing, two bookmakers clerks. W. F. Dunn of New York, and Perry Peebles, were ruled off for alleged fraud. They were employed as a ticket writer and cashier in one of the books here.
