VETERAN RUNES WILL RACE AT BOWIE. Couple of Smart Two-Year-Olds Also in Mirasol Stable Managed by Jake Byer. Raltimore. Md.. March 30. — Runes, a veteran of three years of hard racing and a favorite everywhere oast of the Mississippi river and in Canada, and a t OB pie of two-year-olds by Fitz Herbert, are the stars of the string of the New York moing picture man. who hides his identity under the track name of Mirasol Stable, will campaign at Bowie this spring during the spring session of the Southern Maryland Agricultural Association. The Mirasol horses are being managed this year by Jake Hyor. It is no cinch that Hyor will be able to got Runes ready for the Bowie Inaugural, which is to be the feature race of the opening days program. The two Fitz Herbert two-year-olds were bought last summer at the sale of the yearlings of the French stud of Clarence H. Maekay along with another youngster named Free Love, by the French stallion C!ionborski--Courtesane. One is a filly re-oeiitly named Fan Tan. foaled by Speotrum. anil tiie other a colt. Lord Herbert, foaled by Manzanita. The filly is a bay of fair size and fine balance with black points. She has four good sound legs under her and she knows how to use them. Lord Herbert Resembles His Sire. Lord Herbert is etrlklagly like his sire in eon-formation and action. He is part American. His dam. Manzanita. a daughter of Meddler and Flocar-Uae, she a daughter of St. Florian — Carline and the dam of Muster Roberts, winner of the last Helmont Iark Autumn weight-for age race in which he defeated Fair ITay. was bred in Kentucky before Mr. Makiv transferred his thoroughbred stud from the Hill.- Crass country to Franco. The colt showed H quarter in lietter than twenty -four seconds, when ho was tried out last fall and lie has matured handsomely over wlater.
