KENTUCKY HANDICAP HORSES GALLOPS. Boots and Ed Crump Show Well in a Work-Out Over the Distance of the Race. Louisville. Ky.. May 28, That the A. K. Macom-ber stable will have two strong cards to play in the Kentucky Handicap in Bd Crump and Boots is shown by the work-out of the two lu.rs.-s tog* tiler yesterday. They were sent over the route of the stake, one ami one piaiter miles in 2:09 and tiny w re never fully fTtfdrd Jockey Connelly was astride of Bi Crump while Turner had the mount on Boots. The two horses raced head and head until reaching the eighth post and then Boots drew into a lead of a couple of lengths. The first aaarter was covered in 25.-.. tin- half mile in 00%, the three-qaarters in 1:15% aad the mile in 1:41%. M. P.eriiard. first assistant trainer to Walter Jennings with the Macomher stable is looking after the final conditioning of the horses, which were left here to run in th Kentuck.v Handicap. He has thi in on edge for a grueling race aad he is going far out of his way to put the best Jockeys available on them. Laftas will in all probability ride Bd Crump, which won this stake last year and which in his only start here this seaaaa to date. showed that he is in excellent form. Trainer .oldsborough had Boamer oat for aB airing of a half mile in 00%, and the son of Kaight Errant -Pose Tree II. cantered. He will be given a stiff work-out over the full distance within a day or so. Owner Andrew Milhr is endeavoring to obtain the services of jockey Andy Sehultinger to ride Kounier in the Kentucky Handicap. Schuttin-gi r worked tin- horse all spring and is familiar with his style of running. Jockey Mack Carner has been selected as the pilot for Pif Jr. in the big stake, while Uoscoe QSOBC will have the leg up 0:1 donel euuii . Several of the other owners whose aerie have excellent chances to win, are all lag and writing high class riders in an effort to laud them lor tie-stake and it is probable that the best aggregation of Jockeys seen on a Kentucky race track in a long while will have mounts in it. Robcoo Troxler Getting Better with Age. Jockey Uoscoe Troxler. one of the veterans of the saddle, is paying his firs! visit to Kentucky since the memorable Moridian-Ooverimr Cray race, in which In- had the mount on iovernor Bray, which finished second. Troxler is the same alert jockey at he barrier Ihat he always was and he seems to get better in this respect with age. B une Uespess stable makes its debut for 1017 at Douglas Park and the Covington turfman has some high -class horses this year. He has an especially formidable band of two year olds and, if their morning trials can be taken as a criterion, they are endowed with plenty of speed. Bespess baa patched up P.radleys Choice, one of the best horses that ever sported the silks of B. H. Brad j ley, after he was considered a hopeless cripple ] and, as evidence that he intends to make him use- j fill as well as ornamental, is shown by the fact that right off the reel he put him in a claiming race. | A. P. Steele, who formerly raced a useful stable of horses, is taking in the races here. He has no horses running for him now, having been out of this end of the sport for a year or more. His i stable always was a successful one and he also has proved a successful operator from the ground here. The combination pari niutuel machines are in use at Douglas Park and they also will be used at Latonia. This form of wagering has always proven popular with the bettors in this section and Churchill Downs is the only track that does not use them.
