CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey Rowan was fined 5 for rough riding in the first race at Jaasaica yesterday. A bay filly was foaled by Marion II. at James Butlers East View Stud last Wednesday. A new grandstand is being built at Marlboro. Md.. the old stand having been burnt down this spring. The stable of II. II. Hewitt was sent to P.elmont Park Sunday night in charge of trainer John 1. Smith. Jockey II. Claver had a field day at Prospect Park last Thursday, riding five winners out of six mounts. The Rolorimier meeting, which closed Saturday. Was quite successful and the mutuels were well patronized. The management of King Edward Park has applied for a license to hold the first meeting from June 30 to July 7, inclusive. John Doyle, of Paducah. Ky.. reports a colt by I.ukt — Mildred Maxwell, for which the name of Luke Casey has been claimed. A bay colt by Lonawand — Orange Lily by William the Third — Nuneaton by Rend Or, is reported on May 20 at R. T. Wilsons Kirklevingtou Farm. Orange Lily will be bred to Olambala. Walter M. Scheftel. owner of Highball, the last winner of the American Derby, committed suicide Saturday at the Placid Hotel. Lake Placid, near Plattsburg. N .Y*. Scheftel was a member of the Saratoga Racing Association and the Turf and Field Club.
