HORSES GATHERING AT GRAND RAPIDS. Grand Rapids, Mich., June 18. — The march of thoroughbreds on Uraad Rapids has started and it is probable that there will be 250 horses on the grounds before the week is out. Superintendent Rector lias had the California harrow on the track and it could be raced over tomorrow. Waldo P. Johnson. G. H. Keene. J. A. Gibson. George Chancellor. The Nevada Stable, Dan Freeman. W. H. Fizer and many others have already applied for stable room. John Carey has wired from Devonshire that many of the horses from there will be shipped here. Shaun Gilmartin. representing Mortimer Mahoney, spent today here and the mutuel plant was laid out. The Bowie machines will be used. As Grand Rapids is not within the jurisdiction of the Jockey Club, Canadian Racing Associations or Kentucky State Racing Commission, two-year-olds that raced before April 1. will be allowed to race here. The novelty of an open-air paddock as at Saratoga, will be tried here. It will be situated behind the grandstand in a clump of trees. It is only a few feet from the show barn, which can be used in bad weather.
