HOW THE ENGLISH RACE HORSE FEEDS. An opponent of English racing, Iiaving stated that a race horse consumed its much oats in a day as would supply food for nearly thirty persons, some prominent English trainers were asked the average daily consumption of oats by the horses in their charge. The Hon. George Lamoton, who trains for Lord Derby, said that from 13 pounds to fourteen pounds was a fair average for a horse in active training; Richard Marshs estimate was fourteen pounds and that of Sam Darling thirteen pounds of oats and eleven pounds of hay, a double handful of chair and a handful of pens or beans lieing given with each feed. Reduced to oatmeal, fourteen pounds of oats would not represeut much more than seven pounds and that certainly would not SO far amonj; thirty people. In a day.
