: THIRTY LEADING AMERICAN WINNING OWNERS OF THE PRESENT YEAR I i II. P. Whitney, racing in the name of L. S. Thompson because of the death of a relative, is now the leader of American owners in money won by his horses. His total is in excess of his entire stable returns for 1910 and he is evidently in for a good year, whether he retains his leadership or not. He is not greatly in advance of Jefferson Livingston, whose success at New Orleans gave him such a good send-off. August Belmont is a good third, his fine three-year-old, Hourless, being, as last year, his principal contributor. A. K. Macomber, although subjected to harassing disappointments, has not done badly by any means and is now a good fourth, with stable earnings greater than his last years total. The respected turfman, K. T. Wilson, mainly through the failure of Camplire in racing so far, has fallen off sadly from his big total of last year. Thanks, in the main to the prowess of Old Rosebud, H. C. Applegate, who did not appear in the list of winning owners of 1910, now staiuls sixth with the comfortable sum of 7,455 to his credit. The big array of rich stakes to be run in the course of the Saratoga meeting will greatly affect the relative standing of owners. At present the stable records of our thirty leading owners are: Won in Leading Winner Won in Leading Winner 1910. Owners. in 1910. , 1st. 2d. 3d. 1917. in 1917. 3,5S7 fL. S.
