At post 1 minute. Start good and slow. Won driving; second and third the same. MASTER McGRATII began clear of interference and, setting a fast pace, held on gamely in the linal drive. RUCK SHOT was in close quarters in the early running, but closed up steadily when clear and finished wearing the leader down. SAM McMEEKIN closed a big gap and was -going fastest of the leaders at the end. " SPRING SONG, shuffled back in the first eighth, came around the leaders and closed up rapidly in the homestretch. MEDITATION, cut off in the early running, could never secure a clear course, but slipped through on the inside on the stretch turn and finished fast. OTHELLO had no mishaps and quit in the last eighth. The winner, entered for 1917.sh0. was bid up to ,205 and bought in. AVou easily; second and third driving. ST. CHARLCOTE followed the leader under restraint in the early running, took the lead with a rush in the last quarter and won with speed in reserve. TORERO fenced cleanly and displayed much speed, but could not withstand the winners challenge. SOCONY was close up for the first turn of the field, but tired in the final quarter. MAN SLAYER was under stout restraint when he fell at the fifteenth jump. AVELSHMAN lost his rider at the tenth jump and AVEST MEATH fell at the fifth. LADY EILEEN was gaining on the leaders in the closing strides. PORTIA was in close quarters through the homestretch. RA.TAZET, a slow beginner, could never get settled in his Stride and rau green. OLD ROSEBUD, well ridden, followed CAPRA closely from the start, responded gamely when called on and, taking a small lead, outstayed her in the closing strides. CAPRA displayed excellent early speed and, making the pace fast, drew away on the lower turn and finished gamely, but tiring, ROAMER made a game effort in the homestretch, but tired in the last sixteenth. IMA FRANK saved ground on the turns and ran well for seven-eighths. CUDGEL closed up steadily in the last quarter and was gaining on the leaders at the end. TRACTION raced in closest pursuit under slight restraint in the early running, then responded in game fashion when called on for a final effort and outstayed DOUGLASS S. in the closing strides. The latter, almost left at the post, saved ground on the turns and came wide when entering the homestretch, but closed a big gap and should have won. TING-A-LING took the lead and, setting a good pace, held on gamely under punishment. JULIA L. was forced to race wide all the way and finished resolutely. SILVER SANDALS ran forwardly throughout and was crowded to the inner rail in the last eighth. SIR WILLIAM JOHNSON quit. The winner, entered for 1917.sh00, was bid up to ,200 siud sold to AV. H. TEA PARTV set a fast pace and raced ROW BELLS into defeat, but tired in the final drive. PAYMENT raced wide, but closed up fast in the final drive. SO LONG LETTY was shuttled back at the start.
