SWEEP YEARLING OF MUCH PROMISE Splendid Young Racer by Leading Two-Year-OIA Siro of Year Quartered at Gravesend. New York, December 10. James Murphy, who formerly had charge of Fpxhall Keenes racing string and who developed I he good filly Puss in Boors, which was sent over to England to contend for tho English Oaks in 1916, has settled down for the winter at Gravesend with what appears to be a useful and promising string of thoroughbreds; 111 stable contains a rather miscellaneous band at present, including matured horses, two-year-olds, yearlings and jumpers, but there appears to bo little "deadwood" in it at that. Murphy has four yearlings, two colts and two fillies. There is a rugged-looking bay colt of splendid size and substance by Tho Manager Acushla, which cost 52.500 at the Saratoga yearling sales last August. Just now he is in the rough, carrying a heavy winter coat, but this does not conceal his splendid racing outlines and great muscular development. Murphy appears to havo picked up a bargain in this fine-bred youngster. Even more promising is the other colt yearling, a dark bay colt by Sweep Absent Friend. This colt is rather. larger than the average get of Sweep and is especially handsome and bloodlike, even for a son of Sweep. He Is a typical Sweep of the most pronounced sort and seemingly unsurpassable at that. He bears n striking resemblance to that thoroughly good but unfortunate colt Churchill, which never had the luck to race anywhere nearly up to his true form. In fact. Murphy, who trained Churchill, insists that he was in reality one of tho best colts out In his time, but ills forelegs were unsound and he never was able to send him to tho races In condition to do himself anything like justice. Murphy thinks that in this ycarliug he has another Churchill, except that this fellow is as sound as a bell. He never has been keyed up to what might be termed a yearling trial, but hi owner is more than satisfied with what ho has shown him. Tho prominence of the Swandp two-year-olds in this years racing makes this youngster a desirable one inde:d. The brown filly by His Majesty or MadrigaUan Fanchette, is a racy-looking little miss of the sprinter type. The other filly Is a daughter of Peep oDay Gold of Ophlr. of moderate height, but oxcellent racing conformation. Tho older horses in tho stable aro the two-year-old Jane Mary, the three-yoar-olds Peasant. Ready Made, Spear Lance and the Jumper OJaln. The present intention of trainer Murphy Is "to make a Jumper out of Ready Mude.
