: a HORSES WHICH PLACED THE H. P. WHITNEY STABLE HIGH UP LN THE WINNING LIST OF THIS YEAR The powerful H. P. "Whitney stable reaped a large measure of success in the racing of 1917, but not so great as it could have done. Its magnificent mare, Regret, could certainly have done much more than she did but for the stable policy of giving her only a few easy races annually. Again had the two-year-old Tippity "Witchet been kept in the stable instead of being sold it would have made a difference sufiicient to have given Mr. Whitney the leadership of American winning owners of this year. However, the stable did quite well. In the ileet Hamburg filly, Rosie OGrady, it possessed the best of her age and sex of the year, and its good colt, Rickety, was but little inferior to the years star three-year-olds, as he showed on several occasions. The international veteran, Borrow, showed lie can still run a bit when lie won the Brooklyn Handicap and covered its mile and iin eighth in such marvellous time as 1:49. Many other highly desirable horses of various ages raced in the Whitney colors in 1917 and the record of the big stable was: Horse. Col. and Sex. A. Pedigree. 1st. 2d. 3d. Won.
