HAVANA STAKE NOMINATIONS Twelve Feature Events to Be Run at Oriental Park Fill Well. Total of 379 Horses Named for These Races Yesterdays Racing Spirited. 9 Havana, Cuba, December 22. Racing secretary Martin Nathanson lias just made public the list of nominations made for the twelve states that will be run during the progress of the Oriental Park meeting. This is the first year since the opening of the tracU that the management lias attempted to schedule any stakes and the manner in which the horsemen have responded with entries is gratifying. The first of the stakes to be decided will be the Christmas Handicap of ,200 added, for horses if all ages, distance one mile and fifty yards, which will he run on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 25. The nominations made for this event total thirty-seven and the list includes some horses of better quality than usually engage in winter racing. It is regrettable that three of the nominations those of Shooting Star, First Degree and Hanobala have been voided by the death of the horses named, for the inclusion of these horses in the race would have added to the interest attached to the decision of the stake, but the greater number of those remaining eligible are in good racing condition and the prospects are that the race will be contested by a field of satisfying proportions and quality, thereby inaugurating the stake program of the season in a befitting manner. Weights for this race will be announced on Saturday, December 22 and the field will come from the following list of eligibles: S. P. Barnards Sleeper, H. TV. Boyers Queen Trovato, p. K. Pangles old campaigner Montresor accounted for the Pinar del Rio Handicap at five and a half furlongs, the principal attraction at Oriental Park this afternoon. RafTerty and Alert ran coupled as the Snence-Dortch entry and as such was the favorite. RafTerty forced a fast pace, but Montresor overhauled him in the stretch and out-gamed him in a driving" finish. Despite the heavy going, which again prevailed, the majority of the races furnished interesting sport, with finishes close and exciting. The attendance was up to the usual good standard, many new arrivals being among those present. Ukuleles easy victory the last time out was responsible for making her the favorite in the opening dash. She fully ran up to expectations and experienced little trouble disposing of Confiscation in the last eighth. A spectacular finish marked the second race of the day, which resulted in the overthrow of the favorite Frank Patterson and the success of the Plaudit filly Victrola which, after being saved to the stretch, responded in game fashion and in a terrific rush, got up to win in the final strides. Even more sensational was the final struggle in the third, Oakwood Boy, Get Up and Zodiac finishing in the order named, with only a small margin separating the trio. But for the bungling ride of A. Collins, Get Up would have lived up to her name and beaten the tiring Oakwood Boy. Golden List found no serious opposition in the fourtli race, the Carter filly holding a safe lead I throughout, while Rockport also achieved an easy j victory in the closing dash. j
