ANGLO-AMERICAN TURFMANS HORSES L. AVinans lias been a plucky buyer of bloodstock and has imported some useful horses from America, notably Sir Martin, Adam Bede and Dalmatian, of which the first was a really good horse and unlucky not to- win Minorus Derby, for he fell when- going great guns -hi the approach to Tattcnham .Corner. It wjis a fine performance to romp away as he lid .yith the Epsom Coronation Cup and there is good .reason for anticipating that lie will be a successful sire,. Adam Bede brought off a fine double, event when he won the Duke of York Stakes and the Cambridgeshire and among Dalmatians successes was the Manchester November Handicap, which had previously fallen to the same owners share; by the aid .of The Aalet, as it did again recently with Planet, a colt which would in happier circumstances have been carrying the Rothschild blue and yellow. It. is sad indeed to think that the death of Mr. Leopold should have been so quickly followed by that of his son. Major .Evelyn, who was to have carried -oa the racing and breeding stnds in partnership with liis brother, Capt. Anthony tie Rothschild. Planet has proved himself well worth Mr. AVinans outlay of 2,500 pounds and at Manchester made ample amends for what now appears to be a somewhat unlucky failure in the Cambridgeshire. Race Rock has kept his end up and is as honest a little fellow as ever looked through a bridle. Last year he gave .promise of being a good hurdler and if all goes well I expect he will take high rank during the coining jumping campaign. Of the two-year-olds, .Thyme has done best and is likely to. do further service next year., though not up to classic form and there are. .several other two-year-olds lu the, team that should pay their -way.
