A HEAVY RAINFALL AT LEXINGTON Trainers Work Their Horses Over Muddy Track — Plum Goes Mile in 1:4045. Lexington, Ky.. April 17. — Following a heavy rain last night, the Kentucky Association track was muddy today. The best move noted was Everests mile in 1:47%. This son of Ben Brush is Senator Camdens reliance for the Kentucky Derby and it is known that J. C. Milam, his trainer, is figuring him to have better than an outsiders chance. Late yesterday afternoon Maj. T. C. McDowell brought out his Derby trio and chalked up a mile in l:40fi with Plum. The few who saw it Mi morning were saying that it is the best move of the season here. Olive Wood worked in 1:41% and American Eagle in 1:43. W. L. Stanfieltl came here from Louisville today to see if he can get stalls for his horses. Supt. James P. Ross says all stalls within the track iu-closure are taken and that stalls on the outside have become scarce. John Gallaher today stated that only an accident will prevent his starting Sewell Combs in the Kentucky Derby. He will be ridden by Mack Garner, who also will ride him in the Derby Trial. Jack Baker is well satisfied with the way in which King Gorin and McAdoo are training. King Gorin probably will be seen in action on the opening day. C. B. Heaths Leah Cochran is sick with fever. Jockev E. Sande arrived here today. Mose Goldblatt says he feels certain that Royal II. will stand racing. Chalmers worked five-eighths for J. S. Hawkins this morning in 1:08. hard held. Other work-outs today were: Irish Gentleman, mile in 1:48%; Jim Heffering. mile iu 1:47%; Bac. 1:53; Good Counsel, 1:59%: Atalanta, three-quarters in 1:21: Cora Lane, three-quarters iu 1:26; Prince Harry, three-quarters in 1:23; Mistress Polly, three-quarters in 1:21; Jack Reeves, three-quarters in 1:24%; Kama, four and a half furlongs in 54; Buford. four and a half furlongs in 54%. and Bourbon Lad, five-eighths of a mile iu 1:09%. BIANCHI STRING ON THE GROUND. O. A. Bianchi brought his Kentucky Derby candidate Lucky B. over from Louisville, together with six other thoroughbreds. They were stabled with the horses owned by H. H. Hewitt. The others in the Bianchi string were Olive Merrill, Lady fia-chael, Sennings Park. E. J. Lynch, Executor and Redlaud. Jockey J. McCabe will do the stable riding for Bianchi. The E. R. Bradley string of twenty-six thoroughbreds, which will be transferred from Idle Hour Farm to the Kentucky Association track this week, is made up of the two-year-olds Blushing Beauty. Batter Cake.
