| ■ ■ , SPECULATE ON SIZE OF DERBY FIELD Minimum Guess Is That at Least Ten Starters Will Face the Barrier at the Downs on May 11. Louisville. Ky.. April 215.— With the running of the Kentucky Derby a little more than two weeks away there is considerable speculation among turf enthusiasts as to the size of the field that will go to the lMist in the big event. With numerous eligibles on the ground, and practically all of them showing something out of the ordinary, there is i very indication that the field will lie a large one. Some of the local horsemen predict that Derby day will see from twelve to fifteen three-year-ol.is lined up to face the barrier, while the most conservative estimate is from ten to twelve. Ciuier any circumstances there appears to In- every assurance that there will be sufficient qu intity and quality to make the event one of the most interesting in its history. Among the horses that are considered c«-rta:u starters, barring accident, are Sun Briar. Mscaaat, War Cloud. Everest. Plum. Olive Wood. .las. T. Clark. Hillhampton. Annua and Freeciitter. There is a chance that High Cost. Jack Hare Jr.. Bosi ■•■ OOrady and one or two others will be sent here from the east, but the transportation difficult: make this doubtful. With a number of the prominent Derby candidates scheduled to start in the Derby Trial at Lexington there is a strong likelihood that present Ilerby forecasts may undergo a decided change befor; the running of the event. Sun Briars defeat at Lexington yesterday may dethrone him as favorite for the leg race, a position which he has held practically all winter. Kscobas stock will go up and if War Cloud reaches here iu time there is every probability that the Maconiber representative will In- install d in the honor position avheu the field goes to the pot on May 11.
