The Ashland Oaks will be run at Ix-xington next Tuesday and is attracting more than ordinary iu-t terest lieeausc it will afford a good line on what , may be expected from a nuinl"r of Kentucky Derby candidates of the gentler sex which will start in 1 the race. The performances of the McDowell representatives. Olive Wood and Plum, will be closely watched. Many astute turfmen predict that Olive Wood will lie "the one to lieat in the Derby. This 1 six-edy daughter of The Manager started in five . races last year, was beaten in her first start and 1 then won four in a row. Olive Woods most impressive victory as a two-year-old was in the j Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga, where she triumphed 1 over a splendid band of high -class racers of her r own sex. including H. P. Whitneys Bosie OOrady which James Bowe i-onfidently expects to duplicate Kegrcts success in the Derby. Plum, another r daughter of The Manager, raced quite creditably as a two-vear-old. winning six out of eleven starts. Roth Olive Wood and Plum have been training in satisfactory fashion and many of those watching ; the two iii their work strongly favor Plum, which 1 they insist is the lK-tter of the two fillies. Another r prominent Oaks candidate, also eligible for tie- Ilerbv. is J. N. Camdens Atlanta, which raced with 1 marked success as a two-year-old. Then there is ,s the speedy Viva America and Oipsy Qjiecn. both 1 of which as two-year-olds gave promise of develop -, iug into high -class racers. Aside from the interest in the iierformances of the Derby eligibles a th. race the Ashland Oaks should prove to Is- a i-onti st well worth seeing.
