j i 1 1 1 I » TRANSPORTATION PROBLEM SERIOUS New York Trainers Find It Difficult to Get Cars to Ship to Maryland — Training Notes. New York. April St.— Trailers at Isith Belmont Park ami ;ravesend are becoming a trifle anxious concerning transportation of their horses at Pim-lico. Cars haw fioen expected for the last two or three days to take the more fashionable stables iway. but so far they have not arrived. A. J. Joyner wished to move yesterday with his Preakness candidate Lauius and a few others he intends to race there. Tom Welsh is ready to ship Tromiio La Morte. which will carry the J. I. Widener colors in the race, as well as a few of less importance. Tom Healey is also anxious to get away with some of B. T. Wilsons cheaper horses, as is Jack Collision ongh with Andrew Millers Preakness entry. Be-.-oiint. "I supiMjsc we shall get there some time." said Mr. Joyner. "hut we all would like to be on the grounds as soon as jiossible. so as to give the horses their final preparations. Lanius is doing well and has done all asked of him in the way of slow exercise. He has gone several half miles in 40 and miles in 1:47 and is ail ready for faster work. In fact, every one of the candidates I have seen have done well." There will he plenty of starters, from what 1 can learn, if they can get there." Waller Jennings sent his Kentucky Derby candidate. War Cloud, a mile and a quarter today, with orders for slow work. 1ndcr the steadying hands of jockey Buxton, he wen; the first three-ipiarters in 1:19. the mile in 1:40. and pulled up the mile and a iiiart" r in 2:12. For the first part of the workout, the wind, which was rather high, was against progress, but he could have gone much faster. It is the general opinion of those who have watched the preparations of War Cloud that he will be a hard horse to lieat in the Derby, unless he deteriorates during his trip to the scene of action. He is dii" to leave here next Tuesday. It is probable he will lie given a fast trial of possibly a mile and a quarter next Monday, which will be sufficient until he gets to Louisville. That he is fit for his final fast work when he gets lo Kentucky is the opinion of the trainers here, most of whom are almost ignoring Sun P.riar. the majority believing he may not be sent to the post, especially after his |K or race of yesterday at Ijexingtou. in going that suited him. r was supposed to suit him. Bscoba is the one Mr. Jennings most fears, unless there/jire some of the lesser lights doing better thaJi .taajr did last as two-year olds. .-•ear Trainers are now paying much attention to schooling their horses at the harrier. Few of them have » been asked to run at top speed for any distance. Hildreth and Karrick are going slowly with their charges of the younger division. Tom Welsh i and Jennings appear to lie doing more with their young horses than some of the other trainers, . though it is unquestioned that all the two-year-olds are forward, the idea now being to reserve them for a week or two before putting on their final preparations. It is probable that Tom Healey will take [ Corn Tassel to Pimlico for the handicap, the horse licing in excellent condition for such a race.
