v j. LIVINGSTON LEAVES FOR CHICAGO Will Start Aurum or Spearlene in Derby — James Foster Sure Starter in the Derby. Louisville. Ky.. May 2. — Jefferson Livingston passed through this city today en route from Lexington to Chicago. While in the former city he took in a few days racing and had the pleasure ol witnessing some of his horses in action. Prior to leaving I.exington Mr. Livingston visited Wiggins farm to insjiect his broodmares there. He reported that both Mandy Hamilton and Princess Kathleen had been bred to Jim Caffney. Orlo, his other mare, has a yearling by Fair Play aud will shortly be bred to Bockview. Begarding his plans for the Derby Mr. Livingston says he will surely have a starter in the big race. This will be either Aurum or Spearlene. lioth for-eign-breds. Which of the two will finally lie selected as his standard bearer will not be decided u|Kiii until after the Derby Trial at Ij-xiugton. in which both colts will start. Mr. Livingston will be in I»uisville to witness the Derby as the host of a party of Chicago friends. Hundley Baker announced today that James l.i.-ter would surely start in the Derby and that » loose would ride him. While this colt is not to be classed with the first raters, his owner, nevertheless, believes he stands more than an outside chance to come home in front. Bannockbiirn. a noted stallion belouging to Barney Schrieber. succumbed to the infirmities of old age at Nicliolls farm, near Lexington, yesterday. He was twenty -three years old and was tlio sire of many good racers, including Horace E.. which sold for 5,000 as a two-year-old. and Dr. Cardner. which brought 5,000 when he was three years old. Bannockburn was by Hayden Edwards Bet tie Biases and during his racing career won many important races for his owner. Kenneth D. Alexander, owner of Escoba. has Is-ci ordered to rciiort at once to the navy aviation school at Boston, togo into training for Hie air service in France. This order will make it impnaattta for him to see his colt run in the Kentucky Derby, which was one reason why he returned from the front last month.
