FAST STARTERS POPULAR AT JAMAICA On Account of Short Stretches Horses with Great Early Speed Have Advantage. New York. June 21. — Inside post positions and fa-t starting horses are essential to success in races run over the Jamaica course. The track is almost triangular in construction and horses holding outside pisitious are at a decided disadvantage, both in long .nal short races. The fast starter is undoubtedly lietter off than all other horses, whether on the outer 01 inner position, but even fast beginners on the outside have their work cut out to get a prominent p.sition in the early stages of a race. Occasionally some horse will be successful starting from an outer position, but iu such cases it must be a horse which has phenomenal early speed, or one which gets a slight edge on the starter. In the longer races horses on the outside have a lietter chance than in sprinting affairs, as they can shoot across to the inside early, run close to the rail and wait until Hearing home before making a filial effort. At n track in this section does the post position apply as much as it docs at Jamaica. At Aqueduct tl Fleet is not nearly as great, owing to the long stretches, through which a horse has a good chance to get into its stride licforc interference occurs or a turn is reached. Quick iM-ginners are in most demand iu all races at Jamaica and post ixisitimis are the uext problem handicappers have to solve.
