J E MADDEN TO RETIRE AS BREEDER Master of Hamburg Place Decides to Give Up Breeding of Thoroughbreds Lexington Ky July 7 111 announcing today the intention of John E Madden to retire as a breeder of thoroughbred horses the master of Hamburg Place is quoted as having said It is my unal ¬ terable determination to quit as a breeder of thor ¬ oughbreds Mind you I shall as long as life and health lasts continue to train and race horses for this affords me my greatest pleasure but as a breeder of thoroughbreds I am out of it The breeding end of such an establishment as I am conducting requires so much time and thought that I must perforce miss the part that is my de ¬ light lightThe The Hamburg Place catalog issued by Madden last winter contained the pedigrees of 225 mares but since that time Madden has privately disposed of approximately fifty maros to J II Kossoter to whom he also sold Friar Kock K G Stoddard of Pnckeyp Texas W B Miller of New York and others othersThe The stallions left at Hamburg Place are the vet ¬ erans Ogden Plaudit Star Shoot and the younger horses Ormondale Hessian and The Finn The foals of this year number ninety
