DANEBURY ESTATE HAS A NEW OWNER In all England there is no great estate more redo ¬ lent of racing memories and traditions than Dane ¬ bury an especially interesting period being that in which the illfated Marquis of Hastings had his horses trained there This famous place has recent ¬ ly changed ownership concerning which London Sportsman of June 27 said saidAt At the Mart Andover on Thursday last Messrs Ellen and Son submitted by auction the famous training and breeding establishment of Danebury near Stockbridge associated with the names of John Day the elder John Day the younger Tom Cannon and for the past ten years in the occupation of F E AVithingtou Amongst the past patrons of this noted stable are many notable names whilst the winners of classic races trained here are nu ¬ merous dating back to nearly a century ago The property extends to about G12 acres and includes the noted Danebury Down upon which the Stock bridge and Itibury Club race meetings were held for many years which often brought royalty to the ancient borough of Andover The property was started at 30000 and quickly rose to 40000 at which price it was sold to Digby Powell acting for Sir AVilliam J Tateni who will soon be known as Baron Glanely of St Fagans
