MARKING TIME AT LATONIA TRACK Trainers Heaping Their Horses in Condition in Ex ¬ pectation of Early Opening of Meeting MeetingCincinnati Cincinnati 0 October 24 It is still a case of marking time at Latonia pending definite informa ¬ tion of what may be expected in the way of proceed ing with the plans for the deferred opening of the Latonia Jockey Clubs fall race meeting which is now two weeks behind the scheduled date for its inauguration on account of the influenza situation situationGeneral General Manager John Hachmcister is in central Kentucky conferring with the health authorities of the state over the prospects for a lifting of the ban against public gathering which has prevented the opening of the race meeting It was announced from the office of the Kentucky State Board of Health at Bowling Green that the lx ard probably would meet today to consider the modification of the restrictions in some sections of Kentucky where the epidemic lias been checked It was intimated that the situation in the state is generally satis ¬ factory except in some of the mining aiid rural districts So there is some hope of relief within the next few days daysThe The track was in fair condition today after having been niuddy for several days and the course was fairly alive with horses at work Owners of stables are keeping their racers on edge so as to be able to take part in the racing at short notice If no more rain falls the track will be iif its normally fast condition tomorrow tomorrowJ J B Respess who recently scored a notable triumph in bringing that distinguished cripple the unbeaten Last Coin back to the races is evi ¬ dently planning to duplicate that feat in the case of Dodge the Latonia Derby winner of 1915 which he has just purchased from A K Macomber Dodge u son Of Jim Gaffney went wrong in training last year and has been at the Ileadley farm at Lex ¬ ington ever since His new owner will at once transfer him to his Highland Farm stud at Er langer Ky and if the horse fails to stand train ¬ ing he will be used for breeding purposes which is the ultimate purpose of his acquirement by Mr Ilespess ihany event eventFormer Former jockey D Lindsey suffered a broken leg by a fall from a horse that he was exercising at the track today
