DUCK DISEASE IN CALIFORNIA CALIFORNIASan San Francisco Cal October 23 Thousands of ducks from the rice fields are afflicted with duck disease according to reports reaching the State Fish and Game Commission office here and they are unfit for food Deputies in the northern part of the state found 306 limits of ducks aban ¬ doned by hunters on opening day The hunters discovered after they had killed the birds that they were not fit to eat and threw them away awayThe The sick ducks are found on the drainage lakes near the rice fields The water is alkali and is fatal to the birds The rice land is strongly alka ¬ li and after the rice is planted the land is flooded This water is run off into drainage lakes and the ducks that gathered there got the disease diseaseThree Three sick ducks were brought o San Francisco alive for examination and two of them died soon after reaching here They were examined by Dr II C Bryant of the University of California and Dr Wilbur of the Department of Agriculture and they quickly diagnosed the disease It is a recur ¬ rence of tiie trouble of 1912 and 1913 when thou ¬ sands of ducks died of this disease diseaseAbout About that time COOOOO wild ducks died from drinking alkali water around Sajt Lake City CityDucks Ducks around Bueria Vista Lake and Tulare Lake are badly affected according to reports reportsThis This will spoil many a hunting party planned for the northern part of the state
