OLD TIME BOB CAT HUNT A Pair of Good Fighters in the Bag After a Hot Time One bright December morning found me about five miles from home with my partner and bull ¬ dog and hound writes Maurice Day in Hounds and Hunting We were going up to the mountain for a good cat hunt We got to our destination iibout S oclock We let the hound loose and he hunted around a while but at last we beard him strike up his tune then the old bulldog joined in the race raceMy My hounds name is Jack and the bulldogs is Ted The hound ran si little while and then the dogs began to bark treed The bulldog cut the hound off and they worked well together They cornered the cat and he had to take to a big maple tree When we got in sight of him he came down the tree a ways and then be gave a big jump sibout fif ¬ teen feet I let one shot go at him with my 22 automatic Winchester but missed him for sure He ran up the mountain and down on the west side of it I was hustling up to meet him and the first thing I knew he went almost between my legsv He went into some small cedars and I did not get si shot at him at sill The dogs came along in alxiut two minutes They were giving it to the old fel ¬ low pretty bard but he sure was si good runner The dogs put him over the mountain again and lit bothered them some but they got straightened out after a little while The hound went out of hearing of me I was foaming a good bit so I sat down on a stump I sat there a while and the first thing I knew a shot was fired over to my left sind a whoop sounded that took me off of the stump in about a second He had come tlown by my partner and he fired at him with his sslli but made a clean miss the same as I had done doneBULLDOG BULLDOG VS WILD CAT CATThe The next thing that I knew there was about the worst noise I had ever heard come to my csirs The bulldog had been cutting the hound off and came face to face with the cat Old Ted is sin awful fighter and he muckled to the old fellow but he got away from him and went up a spruce tree I wsis on the scene about that time siiul my partner also He let a shot go at him with his 3840 and I with my 22 automatic We wounded him but not much I shot at him when lie was looking at me and hit him in the head and he tumbled down sis calm as a cucumber The hound had got there and they shook him out some lie was an oldtimer for he had scars on him of all kinds We built a fire and had a lunch and a rest In about two hours we stsirted out again We found a smsill cat track on the other side and let the dogs go They treed him in about forty minutes and we dropped him in quick time That made two for us We thought the dogs had run enough for that day so we put the chains on them and started for home When we got down in the swamp on the south side we shot three bunnies for our supper and that ended our joyful hunt I do not mean to make you believe that all of our hunts were as good as that one I have gone several times when I did not even see a red squirrel
