ORIENTAL PARK FINISHES STIRRING Thrilling Sport Despite Bad Track Conditions Four Favorites Win for the Public HAVANA Cuba December 20 Stirring finishes came with the running of several of the races at Oriental Park this afternoon This was particularly so in athe fifth in which Fort Bliss beat Brown Baby by a nose with Billy Joe a neck away It was nip and tuck throughout and not until the numbers were hung up were the spectators certain which horse had won Despite the heavy track the public managed to pick the winners of most of the races and as a result four favorites were first to pass the judges The track dried out somewhat over night and by Sunday it should be in fair condition conditionOne One of Richard T Wilsons castoffs Ivry by name a chestnut gelding by Ohimbala Lady Na ¬ varre carrying the silks of J W Pangle won the opening race the finish of which was close enough to Miit the most exacting The first three horses came down the stretch with little to choose be ¬ tween them It was not until the final strides that Ivry secured a slight advantage over Corson which in turn just beat The Blue Duke for place honors Tin favorite in the race Surplice ruined whatever chance she may have had by fractious acting at the post The enthusiasm of the crowd knew no bounds when El Plaudit and Lady Matchmaker the property of the Cuban turfmen A Lezama and A II Diaz respectively hooked up in a battle royal in this second race The result was in doubt until right at the end El Plaudit gamely holding on to the small lead lie had secured on the last turn turnPalatable Palatable found conditions to his liking today Jockey todayJockey W Knapp was ah arrival in Havana this morning He reported immediately to trainer W McDaniel of the A II Diaz stable Knapp is a bit overweight at present but expects to be in a condition to ride in a couple of days daysApprentice Apprentice riders A Kreger and L Woods under contract to Kay Speuce were also arrivals from the States Fourteen yearlings and four twoyearolds the property of Mrs L A Livingston arrived from the Rantocas Farm Jobstown New Jersey They were consigned to II E Leigh This addition brings the total in the Leigh establishment s up to thirtysix horses
