HAVANA RACING RESUMED Contests Decided Over Heavy Track and in Drizzling Rain. Last Two Races Furnish the Most Interesting Sport of the Afternoons Card. HAVANA, Cuba, January 9. Racing was resumed at Oriental Park today after a cessation of three days. Monday was the regular off day, while on Tuesday and Wednesday the sport was declared off out of respect to the memory of Theodore Roosevelt. The races this afternoon were run in a drizzling rain, while the going was difficult and heavy. Most of the contests were won by comfortable margins. The most interesting contest and best finish of the day came witli the running of the fiftli race, when Dr. Tyreos Sea Gull beat High Tide by a neck. Half the contestants were beads apart at the sixteenth post, but when the final test came Sea lull proved the gamest. The opening dash saw Flying Dart take the measure of Hrown Prince and Peep Again, the two most fancied in a betting way. The winner led all the way. but Dominick took no chances when Rrown Prince challenged in the stretch and rode the filly out through the last eighth. King Trovnto made a runaway of the second race, leading by a wide gap throughout. He was racing under restraint at the end. Merry Jubilee encountered no serious opposition in the third race and won in a canter by four lengths. The mile dash that wound up the days proceeding was aluttheikeeiily coiittt-d-struKBle; inwhieh Woodthrush just managed to outstay the fast closing Don Thrush. The latter repeatedly stumbled mill may have been best. The favorite. Trapping, after setting the pace to the last eighth, tired badly. W. McDaniels. acting for Senor A. H. Diaz, traded Golden Chance for Speedy Lady. The latter will be retired and bred to the Tracery colt Orestes. Max Ilirsch arrived from the States to remain several weeks. G. W. Loft is expected within a few days.
