OAKLAWN DRENCHED AGAIN Drummond Draws Attention to His Kentucky Derby Chance Four Out of Six Favorites Re ¬ ward Their Backers Three of Them at Odds On HOT SPRIXGS Ark April 9 In the mile purse of 800 for threeyearolds M Sheas prospective Kentucky Derby hope Drummond raced in a man ¬ ner that caused the close observers here to regard him with more than passing notice and if he con ¬ tinues in his training in his present good style ho can be counted a certain starter in the much coveted Kentucky fixture It is true that he beat no pretentious horses but the manner in which he accomplished his task was impressive He dis ¬ played a decided ability to race in the soft going was under restraint in the early racing and when called on in the stretch sprinted away from tin others as if they were standing still and had a margin of ten lengths on his nearest pursuer when crossing the finish line Phantom Maid coupled with Cromwell as the J W McClelland entry landed in second place a slight margin in advance of StoneA the weakly ridden Ed Stone A hard rain this morning caused a change in track conditions and gave the mud runners an opportunity to be at their best The backers were in fairlv good form for after the second race favorites swept the card Three of the winners Drnmmond Harvest King and Discussion were at a short price but extensively supported They won with evident ease easeThe The initial race which brought together an ordinary band resulted in one of the easiest vic ¬ tories during the meeting Little Princess winning away off in runaway style styleVelvet Velvet an outsider took the second race after a drive to outstay Huffaker HuffakerDrummonds Drummonds success was foreshadowed after he had rounded into the stretch and Harvest Kin in the next race was practically under restraint throughout to beat Sands of Pleasure and Obolus ObolusMose Mose Goldhlatts Discussion only cantered to win the fifth race and Waterproof showed a sudden recovery of good form by taking the band of platers starting in the last race into camp in easy stylo styloDrummond Drummond and others in the Shea stable will be shipped hereWord to Lexington at the close of racing here Word was received here today of the death of M Morenz who acted for years in the capacity of confidential man to John Condon one of the foun ¬ ders of the Oaklawn track rIrs Condon still re ¬ tains nil extensive interest in the track S trackS A Cloptoif will ship the horses he has hero next Sunday to Havre de Grace
