CJFITZGERALD SUCCEEDS MATTWINN WollKnown Racing Official Appointed General Manager of Empire City Track NEW YORK N Y April 15 C T Fitz Gerald has been appointed general manager of the Empire City track which position was made vacant by the appointment of Matt Winn as general manager and vicepresident of the new Kentucky Jockey Club Judge Fitz Gerald had charge of the racing at Empire City last autumn and recently returned from Havana where he presided at the winter meet ¬ ing at Oriental Park Judge Fitz Gerald will begin his duties on May 1 1Showers Showers and lull weather coupled with a soft rack was not encouraging for horsemen at the local tracks today Little strenuous work was done by trainers the only prominent gallops being done by Sam Hildreths Derby and Ireakness candidates 1urchate and Cirrus These two threeyearolds were sent a mile in the slow going in 146 the first half in 5 seconds Both are in excellent condition conditionP P A Clarks Dunboyne last years Futurity win ¬ ner and Derby hope ran threequarters of a mile in 117 and galloped out seveneighths in 131 the flnst half mile being covered in 49 49Most Most of the trainers confined their mornings work to their twoyearolds schooling them at the bar ¬ rier rierOmar Omar Khayyam was sent a mile in 1471 He wanted to go much faster but was tinder restraint all tin way Walter Jennings sent War Cloud threequarter in 117 This horse is in grand vonditlon and will be ready early from outward I indications Considering bis dislike for a slow track it was a mighty good move foe War Cloud
