SARATOGA PADDOCK PLACE OF BEAUTY Largest and Most Inviting One in This Country H S Newman to Race Again BY T K LYNCH LYNCHSARATOGA SARATOGA SPRINGS N Y August 5 It is certainly a pleasure to Avitness the preparation of the thoroughbreds in this beautiful paddock re ¬ marked a visitor when lie joined a group and watched Henry McDanlel saddle the great racer Sun Briar for the Delaware Handicap This is I be ¬ lieve the finest inclosure of its kind in the world at least It is by far thc most spacious and inviting of any of the paddocks in this country and to my Idea it is one of the strongest attrac tions of the meeting meetingDuring During these lovely afternoons large gatherings stroll out from the clubhouse and grandstand to look over their favorite racers being prepared for the equine battles taking place here Each trainer has his favorite spot and those vho wish to look over a starter from any particular stable know just where to go The grounds are kept scrupu ¬ lously clean and the lawns are like soft velvety carpets Beautiful flower beds are scattered over the grounds and the tall stately trees lend shade and cast soft shadows on the costumes of the beau ¬ tifully gowned women It is a pity that the pad ¬ docks on every course in the country are not pat ¬ terned after that at Saratoga The Saratoga Asso elation docs things on no small scale and it prob ably costs the club as much to keep up its paddock as does some associations for the upkeep of their entire plant Hart S Newman who disposed of his horses and retired from racing a few years ago lias written to friends here that he contemplates reentering the sport probably next spring when he will ship a band of twoyeariofds to Canada Mr Newman will be remembered as the breeder and owner of that great mare Pan Zarcta as honest a racer as ever stood on Iron An eastern syndicate is negotiating for the purchase of his 100000acre ranch at Still water Texas together with the 22000 head of cat tie on the place Oil has been discovered in that section of the country hence the desire of the eastern capitalists to purchase the place When Newman reenters racing Doc Foucon who rode and trained for Mr Newman for some time will prob ¬ ably join forces with him Foucon is here with Mose Goldblatt GoldblattDISTINGUISHED DISTINGUISHED VISITORS ARRIVE ARRIVEAmong Among the prominent arrivals were Wm G Ttfc Adoo part iu the Oriental Park meeting next winter winterIn In ordinary walks of life when a man dies obli ¬ gations due him usually are quickly forgotten and it is a case of those who owe winning a but It is pleasing to note that John Cavanaugh was able to report yesterday that every dollar due in the transactions of the hite Isador Hamhierschlag were settled Mrs Ilanimcrschlag asked Mr Cavanaugh to sec that all of liis obligations Were met and at the cud of the day his accounts showed a clean slate Those indebted to Mr Hammerschlag were prompt in making a settlement and those whom Mr Jlaninicrschlag owed were as promptly paid This certainly sneaks well for the honesty of racegoers in the business dealings with one another anotherThe The twoyearOld Bersagliere in the stable of G A Cochran which was making his maiden ef fort yesterday and whose support warranted a showing of some merit came out of his race quite lame The Cochran horses have not been showing up as well as they did a year or so back and the stable has had more than its share of the hard knocks this year yearTim Tim Donohtie acting for Mrs F Ambrose Clark has purchased the steeplechaser Le Cyprian from
