NOTED STALLION CELT PASSES AWAY A B Hancock Suffers Heavy Loss When the Son of Commando Dies at His Virginia Stud BY J L DEMPSEY DEMPSEYSARATOGA SARATOGA SPRINGS N Y August 18 Word was received at Saratoga this afternoon of the death of the noted thoroughbred sire Celt at the Ellerslie Stud of A B Hancock near Charlottes ville Va Celt was by Commando Maid of Erin by Amphion second dam Mavourneen dam of Voter by Bardaldine and he was one of the threeyear olds of the famous Keene aggregation to win the Brooklyn Handicap HandicapAfter After passing into the hands of Mr Hancock Celt was given every opportunity to make good in the stud and he was the sire of a great many win ners among the number being the noted longdistance mare Embroidery Dunboyne the Futurity winner of 1918 Cinderella one of the present years crack fillies during the early part of the spring cam ¬ paign as well as a host of others that could be named William Garth whose place in Virginia adjoins Mr Hancocks said that the horse appeared to be in perfect health when he saw him last spring springSome Some Idea of the loss sustained by Mr Han ¬ cock may be gleaned from the fact that at the recent sale of the Ellerslie yearlings seventeen head by Celt sold for a total of 105300
