v SPEEDING UP THE LEXINGTON HORSES LEXINGTON, Ky., September 1. Approximately 100 horses were worked this morning over the Kentucky Jockey Club track. The order was three -eighths around 38 to 39; halves from 50 to 52; five-eighths from IiOStt, to 1:00; three-quarters from 1:15 to 1:19, and miles from 1:43 to 1:48, according 1o the timing of W. L. Lewis and his assistants, who began their autumn service for the Kentucky Jockey Club today. The only gallop over a mile was that of Pif Jr., in the stable of It. L. Baker and Co., in preparation for the Lexington Cup Handicap, which is to be run Wednesday, September 17. He worked to the half in 50-;.-,, three-quarters in 1:15, mile in 1:43 and mile and an eighth in 1:50, easily. J. S. Hawkins General Haig worked the best mile of the morning. He was simply cantering in 1:42. Willie Shields got a. price on this horse while he was here ji month ago, and he may have missed a good chance in not taking him. High Cost showed the best threorquarters of the clay when he finished a. neck in front of his stable-mate, Subahdar, in 1:141s. They are being trained by Lee Krh. Jake Holtman today assumed charge of the horses belonging to" W. Tj. Lewi and will train them throughout the Kentucky fall season.
