; TWO STAKES REMAINING AT LATONIA Queen City Handicap and Latonia Cup the Closing Week Attractions. LATONIA, Ky., October 11. The Queen City Handicap, for two-year-dlds, at one mile, and the liutniiiu Cup, for three-year-olds and over, at two miles and a quarter, are the only remaining stakes to lie decided during the present highly successful meeting at the Litoni.i course. The first-named will be decided on Wednesday, and the latter will be run as a fitting climax to the meeting on Saturday, the closing day. These stakes are well worth winning, and their running will assist in making the losing week the most successful period o the autumn racing season. The Queen City Handicap attracted no less than 147 nominations, which number embraces practically all of the juveniles that, have been making turf history in Kentucky this year; also a number of flu? cracks that have been performing with credit on the eastern tracks. The contest gives promise of developing into a battle between the western owned juveniles exclusively, it being apparent that few of ,the eastern eligibles will come here to participate in the race. And it is to be regretted that such sterling performers as Miss Jemima, Cotton lllossom and Hih Command, all western owned youngsters, which displayed fine form during the spring season in Kentucky, only to be forced on the shelf by minor ailments, will not be seen under colors in this race. Nevertheless, the field this year will bring out a good class of youngsters, including u number that have been slow in coming to hand and which have displayed ability with each succeeding race. Present indications point to a field of twelve being named to start, and figuring on this number the winner will draw down the neat sum of approximately ,700. This years renewal of the Latonia Cup attracted forty-six nominations. The probable starters are He Frank, winner of the Latonia Derby, and which has been shipped here especially to start in the Cup race; John O., Vulcanite, Minto II., Ellison. Legal, Kingfisher, lolku Dot, Under Fire, Sands of Pleasure, Dark Hill, Ormesdale, Piedra, Prospector and Pilstoureau. A field of this size will insure a rattliug good contest over the long journey 9f two miles and a quarter, and in the event of a fast track prevailing next Saturday the track record of 3:505, made by Star Jasmine when that horso won the Cup nice four years ago, may be equaled if not surpassed. The race last year went to Kxterminator, which picked up 121 pounds, and over n heavy track beat Beaverkili, Moseowa, Golding, Kl Key nnd Herald in 4:00. Exterminators owner drew down ,700 as a result of the horses victory. This years winner will receive approximately ,700 in addition to a handsome silver trophy.
