ALLAN reared into the air at the start, but recovered quickly and closed a big gap on the outside, took the lead when entering the stretch and held on gunely in the final drive. VlCK-CnAIR-M AN was always a forward contender and made a game challenge at the eighth post, but tired in the closing strides. THE WAGONER set a fast early pace, but was in close quarters and came to the itt-side in the last sixteenth and finished fastest of all. ARMISTICE closed up steadily in the last quarter. MASDA, forced to be pulled up repeatedly in the early running, came around the leaders in the last half and closed a big gap. CROMWELL finished gamely. FRUIT CAKE raced poorly.
