LATEST METROPOLITAN TURF GOSSIP NEW YOBK, N. Y., November 15. There is a rumor around town that a rich and influential New-Yorker will embark in the thoroughbred breeding business in tlte near future. According to his tentative plans be will also race some horses next year if lie, can buy suitable material. Sam Lewis, who has decided to sell his three horses, Dottie Vandiver, Clarabella and Jean Hill-hint, will probably take an ocean trip during the winter for his health. "I am not sick," said Mr. Lewis, "but I think an ocean trip will blow some of the race track dust out of my clothes." Manager Matt Winn will spend the winter between New York and his home in Kentucky. At present he is in this city, but will return to Kentucky in about ten days. He lias nothing to report excepting that everything Is running smoothly in Kentucky and hopes for even a better racing season next year than the one recently closed. At the recent dinner given to Tom Welch by his friends prior t" his departure last Wednesday to France he said that lie would surely return to this country at the earliest opportunity. France is all right," said Mr. Welch in a short speech, "but this country is good enough for me." He goes to look over the French stable of Mr. Joseph E. Wideuer in an advisory way.
