SALVESTRA TAKES MAIN RACE AT BOWIE Beats Midnight Sun in Closo Finish Before Large Crowd Old Rosebud a Winner. BOWIE, Md., November 15, Closing with a well-timed rush in the stretch, J. J. Hallenbecks Sal-vestra Just got up to beat Midnight Sun by a head in the Prince George Hnnliicap, the fourth and feature race of the half-holiday card at Bowie this afternoon. Cobalt Lass and Midnight Sun contested the leadership to, the stretch. A furlong out the latter showed in front, but lie was unable to withstand Salvestras fast closing challenge. Wood Violet, a victim of early interference, disposed of the others rather handily. Tim absence of Rapid Day, Ophelia and Port Bliss detracted some interest from the race. The weather was ideal and the huge crowd taxed to capacity the accommodation of the plant. The track has dried out rapidly and is now almost at its best. j The veteran performer Old Rosebud displayed a flash of his old form when he captured the third race over the seven-eighths of a mile route. Arrah Go On contested the leadership with the old gelding the first eighth, but once in his stride. Old Rosebud opened up a safe lead and was never afterward in trouble. Charlie Leydecker made a gallant effort to get to the leader in the stretch, but was not good enough. Lunetta. proved to be much the best of the two-year-olds in the second race anil ran away from her opposition with ease in the last quarter. Sister Helene sent the backers of favorites away to a good start, annexing the initial race rather handily after being closely pressed for five-eighths of a mile. The fifth raco was productive of a thrilling stretch struggle when Tom McTaggart barely lasted to beat Tetley by a head after having raced Ballast into defeat in the early stages. Paddy Whack, outpaced to the stretch, disposed of the others rather easily. The purse for the Thanksgiving Handicap, the feature of the holiday card at Bowie, has been increased in value to ,500. Entries for the race closo on November 24. The distance is one mile and a sixteenth and horses of all ages are eligible to enter. Four carloads of horses left Pimlleo this morning for Cuba, including a carload of Whitneys yearlings in charge of J. W. Pangle, and the .string of S. Polk.
