FAMOUS THE WORLD OYER Is Rancocas Stud, Purchased by Messrs. Sinclair and Hildreth. t : Only American-Bred Winner of the Epsom Derby Raised and Trained There, i i -NEW YOKK. N. Y.. Dcccmlier 1. It is surmised hero tliiit .S. .. Hildreth will shortly move his horses from Iielinnut Park, where they are now located, to Rancoeas Stud, recently purchased bv Mr. II. F. .Sinclair and Mr. Hildreth. Situated at .lohstown, near Trenton, X. J., Ran-voeas comprises alMiut two thousand acres. It is n picturesque enmhination of woodland and field, on which there is a. spacious country residence, omfortahle homes for employes, elaborate stabling, si training track and a fully equipped hospital service. The land was purchased in 1878 by the late lierre Lorillard. who expended more than ,000,000 in improving it. In addition to adapting it to the breeding and training of race horses he made it a game preserve in which quail abounded, imiwrted English iheasants and native partridge frequented underbrush, and wild duck, chiefly mallards, were at home in miniature lakes. The ducks which were at home could net fly away because they had been trapped, wins clipped and turned loose to remain :md breed or mayhap lure other migratory waterfowl to companionship. By winning the Epsom Derby of 1SS1 Iroquois, purchased as a yearling;, but developed at Rancoeas made that farm famous the world over. Other noted horses that represented Rancoeas were Parole, winner of the City and Suburban Handicap at Epsom, England, in 1870; Pontiac, an English colt, which wiin the Suburban at Sheepshead Day in 1885; Uncus, Julicn. Vestibule. Kildeer and Lamplighter. When the owner died in 1901 he willed the farm to 3Irs. Lillian Allien, who afterward raced as Mrs. Lillian Livingstone. She retained the proierty until about two weeks ago; but while rumored that Messrs. Sinclair and llildrctli were the purchasers, there was no positive statement to that, effect until last Friday. Hilly Myer. former track superintendent at Saratoga, lias lMen placed in charge of llancocas and has already moved to the farm. While the Hildreth stable is a large one and has some mighty fine horses in it. there is not a mare or filly in the string, so it is probable that Hildreth will be in the market for desirable mares. During the summer he made r.o secret of the fact that he was anxious to locate on a farm and that he regarded Lucullite as an ideal stock horse. Among other horses in the string are Purchase. .Mad Hat-tor, Thunderclap, Corn Tassel, Royal Lodge. Sun-flash II., Valor, Lord ISrighton, Cirrus, Princeps, Poacher, Dominique and Krewer. As an owner Air. Hildreth lias shown a preference for "made horses" ready to nice rather than yearlings.
