PETRES KINGDOM FOR A HORSE RACE When, says the London Sportsman. Staplctoti Park at Charing was offered for sale at Doncaster last nioiith.it was, declared that one. of the. early owners of the estate, a man named Petre, staked the whole of it on a horse running in the St. Legor called Matilda, and the hors6 Won. A monument to it was erected on one of the clock towers. Matilda won the event Jn 1827. and Mr. Petre also tvon the race in tlie two following years with. The Colonel and Rowton, while in 1S22 he was successful with Theodore. ,
