BIG ENTRIES IN SARATOGA STAKES Hopeful Stakes Breaks Its Rocord, but Travers Stakes Falls Off Slightly. SBW YOKK, X. Y.. December 1. The final count for the Saratoga stakes, which closed Thanksgiving day, shows an increase over those of last year in several of the offerings. One of two stakes is a trifle behind. The Hopeful Stakes broke all previous records, receiving 230 nominations. The Travers Stakes shows a falling off, for the reason that geldings are now barred in that race, while in its J!l! running geldings were eligible. This race received 170 nominations for 1920. against 208 in IHiy. The United States Hotel and lirand Iliion Hotel fixtures received respectively 211! and Ill entries, each showing a marked increase over last years nominations, in the Spiuaway ir were nominate!, an increase of thirty-seven. The Alabama fell off slightly, only having 131! entries, against 154 last year, while the Grab Dag Handicap received sixty-two subscription", against fortv in 1919. Superintendent Clare of the Saratoga track came hero Thanksgiving day to take dinner with his mother, who resided at Coney Island.
