QUEEN GAFFXEY saved ground when entering the stretch and. finishing gamely, won in the last stride, but her rider broke one of his stirrups in the webbing at the eighth post or she might have won farther off. WALTER MACK drew away into a long lead while rounding the far turn and was easing up at the end. PHEDODEN raced in closest pursuit, but had to be hard ridden to outstay BLANCH ITA. The latter made un ground and finished with a rush. J. J. MURPOCK began slowly. SCYLLA pulled up lame. SHODDY and HERDER ran well.
